What is Kinetic?

Welcome! This blog chronicles the fits and starts of bringing Kinetic to life.

Kinetic is an information visualization experiment, currently funded and developed by me (Jim Tran).

Have you ever been frustrated using Microsoft Visio to describe highly-complex systems? For an astonishing range of diagrams, Visio is a stellar tool–in fact, I use it all the time and recommend it highly. However, when trying to diagram highly-complex systems, I’ve noticed Visio can be limiting and awkward at managing complex diagrams. Kinetic is my exploration of the question: Can we create a usable tool which allows highly-complex diagrams to be managed more effectively by multiple teams?

It’s about finding new delightful ways to deal with diagrams and data.

I juggle a full-time job alongside (too) many hobbies, and enjoy spending time with my awesome family and friends. When I do find a few extra hours during the week, I chip away at this fascinating Kinetic experiment. Exploring better ways of visualizing information is my passion, and this project is turning out to be quite challenging and surprisingly fun.

I appreciate your support on this journey, and please join the conversation!
